What is the Gum Springs Homeowners Organization (GSHO)?
GSHO is a community-based organization formed by a group of homeowners for Gum Springs homeowners and stakeholders.
What are the GSHO boundaries?
GSHO boundaries are the 214 acres as defined by West Ford, a freedman who founded and is the father of Gum Springs.
Why create a Gum Springs homeowners' organization?
Homeowners, Property Owners, and Condo Owner Associations (H/P/C Association) do not allow anyone who does not own within their specific area/development to become a member of their association. For example, Holland Court Property Owners Association only allows the 10-owners residing on Holland Court as members. That same membership policy is applicable for Mt. Woodley and the Village at Gum Springs. Any information and/or action that affects the broader Gum Springs community should be available and disseminated to all.
GSHO was created to minimize or eliminate that void by being a central repository for accurate information, for all owners to collaborate and share information with one voice for the betterment of Gum Springs as owners. For example, without consideration to other interested Gum Springs residents, Fairfax County identified and selected several individuals to represent Gum Springs on a Gum Springs Architectural Survey Selection Advisory Committee (committee) without notice to residents and owners in the broader Gum Springs community.
As a direct result of no community engagement, a vast majority of owners do not know the purpose for the committee or its projected outcome despite it being a contributing factor for the Mount Vernon Supervisor to withdraw his support for a proposed quality housing development in Gum Springs.
Neither Fairfax County nor the committee have held meetings with the Gum Springs community despite being in existence for more than 1-year and preparing (or have prepared) a report and recommendation for the Mount Vernon Supervisor for action and presentation to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors without community engagement..
What about the New Gum Springs Civic Association (NGSCA)?
There’s nothing to preclude anyone from becoming a member of NGSCA in accordance with its bylaws. To become a NGSCA member and vote on matters pertaining to Gum Springs you must pay dues.
GSHO members pay no dues or fees.
GSHO was also formed because it is governed by the rule of law.
NGSCA does not follow its own established policies and procedures to include its bylaws. For example, contrary to verbal and written advisement from legal counsel on March 14, 2023, that a meeting held by an ad hoc group on February15, 2023 that elected the current NGSCA leadership and the undated general notice signed by Tyesa Collins as secretary that was distributed during February/March 2023 and on September 12, 2023 was illegitimate, the NGSCA continues to operate in this unlawful and prohibited manner.
GSHO is governed by the rule of law. Owners should and need to be mindful of who they follow.
What is the difference between GSHO and NGSCA?
GSHO members are owners who pay Fairfax County real estate and property taxes who should and will demand a voice and seat at the table with appropriate officials, organizations and agencies on matters concerning their property, redevelopment projects, safety and other owner related concerns that affects their quality of life in the Gum Springs community. GSHO is not affiliated with NGSCA. Owners want to be heard! GSHO represents and gives a voice to homeowners.
When and where are GSHO meetings?
No meeting have been scheduled yet. Our first priority was our membership drive. We are currently “fielding” inquiries to develop an "owners" agenda for our first meeting. That meeting will be virtual via Zoom. Members will receive a notice and the meeting link via the email address provided on their membership application.
