GSHO is concerned about the following and has or will contact and request information from the appropriate individual(s) and/or organizations to share with the membership:

CONCERN:  A matter concerning a section of Douglas St. identified as a private road.  RESOLVED

CONCERN:  New home build on 2817 Derek Road -- clarification on owner's preference to change entrance from Derek Road to Douglas St.  PENDING until completion of house.  Temporary driveway on Douglas for permit approved entrance for construction equipment.

CONCERN:
  • What is the status for the BRT art design for the Gum Springs BRT Station?
  • How can the community provide input into the design?​​
BRT Team will be hosting a hybrid community meeting on December 10, 2024.   

CONCERN:
  • What is the status of INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital Expansion Plans that continues to impact Gum Springs?  See IMVH Questions page
  • When will the Mount Vernon Supervisor hold a meeting to mitigate the traffic impacting Gum Springs and surrounding communities resulting from Mount Vernon Hospital's build-outs.  See IMVH Questions page.  Also, response did not adequately address the concerns.  Therefore, follow-up questions may be submitted at a later date.   
​CONCERN:
  • What are the latest proposed proposed new housing stock and development for Gum Springs to include SE and SP applications for businesses and homes?
​CONCERN:
  • What is the Mount Vernon Police plan to be more proactive in patrolling the Gum Springs community?
CONCERN:
  • What is Fairfax County Park Authority's plan to discourage late night visitors to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Park?  ​FCPA stated on November 18, 2024 that it would contact FCPD for assistance.

​CONCERN:
  • Airplane noise 
    • ​GSHO has a homeowner participating in the Mount Vernon airplane noise group (South Flow Alliance) to keep us informed.​  Click here to file an online noise complaint to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).   Send noise complaints to MWAA Community Noise Working Group (CWG) as it continues its efforts to move the planes over the river instead of over us.  We need you to send the complaints. This is an ongoing concern.
